Manchester United is reported to be on the verge of signing a new shirt sponsorship deal with Chicago-based global financial services company Aon Corp.
The Wall Street Journal said that the firm is days away from announcing a four year deal with the club, following a decision by insurance giant AIG not to renew the contract for the 2010/2011 season.
The club has been widely reported to have scoured the globe in search of new sponsor, although it has so far refused to comment on any speculation. Air Asia, Samsung and Tata have all been linked with a potential deal over the past few months to no avail. The new deal is reported to be worth £20m a year compared to AIG’s current £16m a year deal. Aon is said to have been working with sports-marketing consultant PSMGI on the terms of the sponsorship.
