Bury Town FC prepare to bid for new ground

Ryman Premier Division side Bury Town FC is working alongside Bury Borough council and the Suffolk FA on the proposed Bury St Edmunds Community Rugby project which if successful, would provide a new ground for the club.

In addition to a full size artificial playing surface and relocated Bury Town Rugby ground, the project also includes changing and social facilities and a new player development centre.  There will also be new junior and mini-soccer grass pitches. The Suffolk FA Player Development Centre would be for coaching youth, junior, women's, girls' and disability football. The Bury Community Rugby project will be run by the Suffolk Rugby Association.

Bury borough council is currently preparing a planning application and bid for funding from The Rugby Foundation for the proposed project on land to the east of Moreton Hall.

A consultation is taking place to help prepare the planning application and members of the public have been invited to share their views. 

Speaking of her hopes for the new facilities Cllr Lynsey Alexander, St Edmundsbury's Cabinet member for Culture and Sport, said:"The project will be so much more than simply a replacement ground for Bury Town FC. It will add greatly to leisure opportunities for children and adults in the Moreton Hall area, and indeed the town as a whole, and provide wonderful coaching and development opportunities for the future. We look forward to hearing from local residents about this exciting new project."
