England fans given World Cup advice

The Foreign and Commonwealth Office has issued advice to England supporters who are planning to travel to the 2010 World Cup finals in South Africa.

Fans may face issues such as a shortage of accommodation, sub-zero temperatures and crime.

"It is crucial that those planning to travel are aware of what measures to take to stay safe," said FCO minister Chris Bryant.

The tournament begins in Johannesburg on 11 June.

To advise fans on dealing with the potential problems, the FCO has set up a dedicated World Cup page on its website.

"South Africa is a wonderfully diverse country and promises our fans a great experience," added Bryant.

"Taking a few simple steps such as visiting the FCO website as well as taking out appropriate travel insurance can make all the difference between an experience to remember and one to forget."

The draw for the tournament will be held Friday 4 December in Cape Town.
