ESPN go mobile with Premier League
ESPN has secured the UK mobile rights to all Barclays Premier League games in a three year deal starting form next season.
ESPN will deliver in-game, post-game and customised highlights packages, including goals, to users of smartphones and other mobile devices.
Premier League chief executive Richard Scudamore said: "ESPN's purchase of Barclays Premier League mobile clip rights demonstrates their commitment to the competition and the fans. Mobile is an increasingly important technology as handheld devices become ever more sophisticated, therefore a good offering with a strong partner is important to us both in terms of accessibility and complementing live coverage."
Lynne Frank, ESPN senior vice-president and marketing director, added: "Mobile devices are an indispensable lifeline for football fans, who expect easy, quick access to the latest goals and action wherever they are. Adding these rights will allow us to advance our commitment to delivering great sport across the many screens UK fans use each day."
ESPN took over Setanta's TV rights after the latter collapsed and will show 23 live Premier League games in each of the next three seasons, and has also added the rights to 25 matches in the FA Cup, 27 in the Uefa Europa League, and 30 in the Scottish Premier League.
