Attendances increase as fans help clubs through recession

Accountant Deloitte LLP has reported a five percent increase in attendances at football matches which has help keep the top clubs from suffering during the economic crisis.

The stands have been 91 percent full since the start of the season in mid-August. English Premier League stadia averaged 37,400 in attendance for the first couple rounds of games.

Manchester City Rugby Club and Blackburn Rovers  saw a rise in attendance that was a more than ten per cent increase, according to Deloitte.

Real Madrid has the highest income with a projected increase of 3.5 per cent in ticket sales and other stadium income. Revenue is expected to reach EUR 421.7 million by June, helping the club recoup some fuds after a summer of spending.
