Huddersfield Giants Confirm Move to Dewsbury's Flair Stadium from Next Season

Huddersfield Giants have confirmed they will relocate to Dewsbury's Flair Stadium from next season, ending a 32-year stay at the Accu Stadium.

The announcement was made during half-time of the Giants' 42-20 Super League victory over Catalans Dragons, with supporters admitted free of charge to mark the occasion. The move, which remains subject to Rugby Football League approval, will see the club play its home matches approximately 10 miles away in Dewsbury.

Club officials hope supporters will make the journey to the Flair Stadium, which currently holds 5,100 spectators. Plans are already in place to expand the ground's capacity to 8,000 through the construction of a new stand.

Director Rebecca Jackson, granddaughter of owner Ken Davy, revealed that the Giants intend to invest more than £10 million into upgrading the stadium to meet Super League standards.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Jackson said: "The Huddersfield Giants will be moving to the Dewsbury Flair Stadium for the medium term.

"We're still the Huddersfield Giants, we're still based in Huddersfield and Huddersfield is still the home of the Huddersfield Giants.

"It's not quite Super League ready yet, so we definitely need to bring it up to standard, and we'll be spending around £10 million plus.

"So it's a huge investment going into that to ensure that it can actually be the place where the Huddersfield Giants can play and really have the atmosphere for both the fans and our partners."

While the move provides a new home for the club in the near future, Jackson stressed that the long-term ambition remains to build a purpose-built stadium in Huddersfield.

She added: "This is just a medium-term plan. We're still looking to build our own stadium within Huddersfield. That is definitely still our intention.

"A lot of discussion has been happening and we're hoping that this is going to be able to be a bit of a stopgap for us to have a medium-term solution to then get back to Huddersfield long-term."

The Giants have shared the Accu Stadium with Huddersfield Town since the venue opened in 1994, but club officials have long felt the 24,500-capacity stadium is larger than required for their needs.

The relocation marks a significant moment in the club's history as it continues to pursue plans for a permanent home of its own. The announcement also follows recent changes behind the scenes, with Ken Davy stepping down as chairman last month after withdrawing from a bid to purchase The Shay stadium in Halifax.
