Bateman to join Canberra Raiders

Bateman to join Canberra Raiders

John Bateman has secured his move to the NRL after signing a three year deal with Canberra Raiders.

The England International has long been linked with a move to the Raiders where he'll link up with fellow England starts Josh Hodgson and Elliott Whitehead, along with current Wigan team mate Ryan Sutton.

Bateman, aged 24, is under contact with Wigan until the end of next season but has a clause in his contract that allows him to speak to NRL clubs about a move next season.

Bateman has now taken the opportunity to activate that clause, and, following interest from a number of clubs, he has decided to join the Raiders who have been actively recruiting English players in recent years.
