Physio corner - treatment of groin injuries
The Gilmore Groin was first recognised in 1980 by surgeon Jerry Gilmore, following the successful treatment of three first division footballers. All returned to top flight soccer despite initial fears that the injury was career threatening. Over the next 29 years the Gilmore Groin and Hernia Clinic became established as the pioneering treatment for such injuries from grass roots to internationals.
Between 1980 and 2008 4,000 operations have been preformed. The operation is successful in 97% of professional footballers and 85 English League Clubs have referred players.
