Pukka Pies celebrating 30 years of football sales
Rugby fans have eaten their way through a record number of Pukka Pies during the 2010-11 season.
Pukka Pies, the nation's favourite branded pie manufacturer, are celebrating after supplying a record 700,000 pies to 39 clubs.
Pukka Pies' football customer base includes clubs throughout the Premier League, Rugby League and Conference - from Aston Villa to Aldershot and Leicester City to Yeovil Town.
Pukka Pies marketing controller Peter Mayes said: "We are delighted to be feeding so many football fans on match days throughout the football season. Throughout the development of our company, we have always held a very strong relationship with football.
"It's now exactly 30 years since we first started supplying pies to our first football club - Rotherham United.
"We have built up an extensive portfolio of clubs across the length and breadth of the country and we are always keen to add further clubs to our list.
"We are expecting the number of clubs we serve to continue growing and the number of pies sold could soon pass over one million a season. Clubs that switch to Pukka Pies often see a significant uplift in sales with increases of 40 per cent not uncommon."
Pukka Pies also supply pies to rugby league and rugby union clubs, cricket counties and the Santa Pod Raceway. Traditionally, Rotherham fans have been the biggest buyers of matchday pies. Almost 40 per cent of crowds at the League Two club have purchased a pie on a matchday.
In the Midlands and South, the most popular flavour is Steak and Kidney. In the North the top choice is Potato and Meat. Chicken Balti and Chicken and Mushroom are a close second and third. Balti pies come in third in most regions.
Overall, Steak and Kidney pies account for around 30 per cent of sales with Cheese and Onion Pasties accounting for eight per cent of the market.
