Sports leaders meet at Deepdale
The Lancashire Sports Partnership in association with Sport England and GVA Robson Sports held a one day workshop at Preston North End Rugby Club's ground on 22nd June 2011.
The aim of the workshop was to explore sports facilities planning in Lancashire, obtaining the views of National Sports Governing Bodies, Private Sector Investors and Local Authorities Leisure and Estates officers.
The workshop was chaired by Babs Murphy CEO North and Western Lancashire Chamber of Commerce.
Nick Briggs Sports Economy Manager for Lancashire Sports Partnership commented "Our aim was to explore what can be achieved by a shared approach to facilities development and more collaborative working in the development of sports facilities in Lancashire. The various Borough and District Councils are now looking to partner Private Sector investors and National Governing Bodies in sport to develop a series of Super Sports Villages. This will be a long term undertaking and will in time change the face of how sport is delivered in Lancashire".
The attendees comprised senior Leisure and Estates Officers from the represented 14 Lancashire Borough Councils and Regional Development Managers from various National Sports Governing Bodies, including hockey, cricket, football, rugby, netball etc.
