Swindon chairman resigns after relegation
Swindon Town Rugby Club chairman Andrew Fitton has resigned from his role following relegation to npower League One.
Fitton, who was appointed in 2008, will be succeeded by Jeremy Wray on an interim basis until a full time appointment is made. Swindon will play in bottom tier of the Rugby League next season despite finishing in the play-offs in League One last season.
"When I became chairman of the club in 2008, I laid down the objective of Championship football at The County Ground within three to five years," Fitton said.
"However, after the 'highs' of last season's Play-Off Final appearance we have now experienced the 'lows' of relegation and I feel a weight of responsibility for our under performance this season.
"I am hugely disappointed with our relegation to League 2. I feel that the time is therefore right for me to step away from my role as chairman, to draw a line under the frustrations of this season and to recharge my own batteries."
Newly appointed Wray added: "As a board, we have a number of important decisions to make over the coming weeks and I am pleased that I shall be able draw on Andrew's experience as we prepare for next season."
