Wycombe Wanderers reveal site for new stadium
Wycombe Wanderers has announced that plans for a new stadium and sports village with London Wasps have moved forward with a site being confirmed for the project.
Wycombe Air Park at Booker has been put forward as the preferred location for developing the new facilities. The clubs plan the new facility to include a 17,500-20,000 capacity stadium and a sports village which would include pitches for football and rugby, a racquets centre, cricket ground, five-a-side pitches, and an athletics facility. The plans could also include commercial space, a hotel and connected residential development.
The announcement comes as local authority Wycombe District Council is carrying out a public consultation to get feedback on how the local community would like to see the proposals taken forward.
Steve Hayes, Owner of Wycombe Wanderers and Wasps, said: "We launched a vision in March for how we want to develop new facilities that would be really exciting, would help us build a successful and sustainable future here in Wycombe and would provide tremendous benefits for the clubs, the fans and the community we serve. We are now clear on how we can best achieve that - by building a new community stadium and sports village at Wycombe Air Park at Booker."
Mark Rigby, Director for WSDL, said: "This project is about delivering outstanding new facilities for the benefit of the community and the clubs.Having looked at the property requirements we would need to deliver the full potential of the scheme, we are now clear that Wycombe Air Park at Booker is our preferred site. It has the size, location, topography and combination of attributes that would best enable us to progress our vision, including the potential of co-location of the Air Park for continued aviation. This is our position as WSDL and the clubs.
"Crucially, we must now await the results of Wycombe District Council's separate public consultation on the sites it is currently assessing. Only after this consultation has closed will we have a clearer view on how the planning process may progress."
