Radlinski Backs RFL Strategic Review as Clubs Unite Behind Reform Agenda
Wigan Warriors Chief Executive Kris Radlinski has voiced his full support for the RFL’s ongoing strategic review, which has been underway since March and is being spearheaded by former RFL chief Nigel Wood.
Radlinski confirmed that he and Warrington Wolves CEO Karl Fitzpatrick met with Wood last month, describing the discussions across the game’s leadership as “very collaborative” and focused on building consensus.
“Karl and I had a coffee with Nigel and it was very positive,” said Radlinski. “I’ve also been part of a couple of owners’ meetings where everyone has put their views on the table, and I have to say it’s been collaborative and well-spirited.”
He added that while each stakeholder might highlight different areas of concern, there’s a clear shared understanding of the key challenges facing the sport.
“If you had a list of five things we have to look at and I did a list of five things, we probably wouldn’t be too far off,” he said. “People in the sport know the areas we need to focus on.”
The review is expected to culminate in a key Council update in July, though Radlinski stressed this won’t be a one-off “great reveal”, but rather the unveiling of shared priorities and strategies to drive the game forward.
“It’s not going to be all the answers,” he noted. “But it will outline the common areas of focus and how we’re going to address them.”
Nigel Wood, who chairs the review committee, echoed the sentiment, confirming that the process is progressing “at pace” and has received overwhelming support from across the sport.
“Change is always challenging,” said Wood, “but I’ve been reassured by the complete pulling together by clubs in their determination to seek a new strategic vision.”
The review is now expected to run through to December, with a “suite of recommendations” anticipated to help reshape the sport’s direction and commercial potential.
