Salford RLFC Announce New CEO
Former Salford captain Ryan Brierley has returned to the club as its new chief executive following the successful launch of the Red Devils’ phoenix club.
Brierley has brought his playing career to an end at Oldham in order to take up the role, just days after a consortium led by fellow former Salford player Mason Caton-Brown secured approval from the Rugby Football League to enter the Championship.
The 33-year-old was among the players who left Salford Red Devils during a chaotic 2025 campaign that ultimately ended with the club being wound up in December. Financial turmoil, late wage payments, heavy defeats and a mass exodus of players culminated in Salford losing their Super League status for the 2026 season.
Speaking after his appointment, Brierley said Salford’s place in the sport had driven his decision to step into an off-field leadership role.
“Salford is in my heart, and I believe saving its rugby league heritage is something that transcends rivalry,” he said. “I hope Oldham’s incredible supporters understand that this is about protecting something we all care deeply about, and what a great club they belong to.”
Oldham confirmed Brierley’s departure in a statement, wishing him “every success in his new venture” and thanking him for his contribution during his time at the club.
In a fitting twist, Salford’s first match back in the Championship is scheduled to come against Oldham in mid-January, marking the opening fixture of the 2026 season.
“It feels fitting,” Brierley added. “That match will be about rebirth, it will be a celebration of rugby league itself. Two historic clubs, built by working people, standing shoulder to shoulder for the good of the game.”
