Wakefield Trinity Stadium Redevelopment Approved by Council

Wakefield Trinity has received formal approval from Wakefield Council to proceed with major redevelopment plans for the DIY Kitchens Stadium, marking a significant step in the club’s ongoing infrastructure improvements.

The approved plans include the installation of a new roof over the west stand, the creation of a dedicated standing section within the south stand, and the addition of a TV gantry and studio to support enhanced media coverage. Further upgrades involve an enclosed staircase to access media areas and the relocation of an on-site bar to a covered section elsewhere in the stadium.

The redevelopment attracted widespread public backing, with over 300 supporters submitting positive feedback, while five objections were noted—primarily concerning potential noise increases and privacy issues for neighbouring residents.

However, a planning officer’s report addressed these concerns, stating that the upgraded west stand—featuring modern metal cladding and a larger roof—would present a more contemporary appearance and support the functional needs of the venue, including broadcast infrastructure.

“The additional standing positions are expected to have a negligible impact on overall noise during matchdays,” the report noted, adding that the upgrades complied with both local and national planning policies.

The report also acknowledged the economic and community benefits of the development, with the new facilities expected to strengthen the club’s matchday offering and contribute positively to the local area.

Construction timelines and further details on the project rollout are expected to follow in due course.
